On Monday, January 13, Sawtooth Mountain Clinic announced plans to build and operate a full-service pharmacy at the Clinic in Grand Marais, MN. While plans are still in progress, Sawtooth Mountain Clinic anticipates the pharmacy will be available to patients in January 2021.

“The new pharmacy is an important addition to the full array of medical and behavioral healthcare services we provide to Cook County and the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa,” said Kate Surbaugh, Sawtooth Mountain Clinic chief executive officer. “As a federally qualified community health center, the federal government expects Sawtooth Mountain Clinic to participate in certain pharmacy programs. This is best accomplished by launching a new pharmacy. Pharmacies within community health centers are a well-tested and successful model with hundreds operating across the country.”

The new pharmacy will be conveniently located in the current facility and will be open Monday through Saturday. Sawtooth Mountain Clinic has contracted the services of a leading national pharmaceutical services provider to launch the pharmacy and will hire fully accredited pharmacists to staff the operation. The pharmacy will offer enhanced medication management and continuity of care with primary care providers.

“Sawtooth Mountain Clinic remains dedicated to the continuation of personal, compassionate, high-quality health care for all, regardless of their ability to pay. The new pharmacy will complement our mission and expand services to our communities,” said Surbaugh.

Founded in June 1979, Sawtooth Mountain Clinic has grown to include six full-time physicians and one nurse practitioner. Along with a highly professional staff of nurses, behavioral health practitioners, medical record and office personnel, and administrative staff, these seven providers care for patients with health care needs ranging from prenatal to palliative. Sawtooth Mountain Clinic is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
