Saving Snow is a documentary film depicting the effects a warmer climate is having on people who make their living during the winter.
A group called “Protect Our Winters (POW)” shows that tens of thousands of jobs are at stake in mountainous ski resort villages if the winters continue to grow shorter and warmer. Snow sports generated $6.9 billion in wages while adding $11.3 billion to the national economy in 2015-2016.
Low snow years are disproportionately devastating, with annual revenue losses of $1 billion and 17,400 fewer jobs, says POW.
Voyageur Brewing Company will be the site of the Grand Marais screening of this documentary film.
“Promoting year-round outdoor adventure is a crucial part of our mission, and awareness of changes to our surroundings is essential to understanding how we can work to mitigate the effects in our community and beyond,” said the Voyageur Brewing Company owners.
Stillwater, Minnesota high school graduate Jessie Diggins, 2018 Olympic Cross Country Skier Gold Medal winner, says, “It’s so important to me that future generations of skiers can experience winter and enjoy being active outdoors on a healthy planet!”
Saving Snow will be shown Saturday, March 24 at 7 p.m. at Voyageur Brewing Company. Admission is free.
