Save money and just fix what we have

Okay, I get it; the 1% tax was designated for recreation and nothing else—no going back. My fault, I should have paid more attention when that was decided as so many other Cook County entities need that money. Too late, my bad as they say.

So my opinion on this Community Center is this: 1. Yep it would be a great spot for people to drop their kids off, get that. 2. I don’t see how the West End benefits compared to Grand Marais, not fair. 3. Fix or re-build the pool in its current location, add a game room for all those kids to play games.

Great for parties, plus a new pool would possibly increase the number of people who use the pool. 4. Build an indoor ice rink! Duh, the revenue from winter hockey games would be a boost for all in this town. Look at Silver Bay, our home ice. The games that are played there with hockey kids and families fill the hotel(s) during hockey season.

This is Northern Minnesota and we don’t have indoor ice for hockey?

The curlers supported the curling rink, I get why they have priority.

We can do the same for the hockey teams and the folks who like to skate can’t we? 5. Leave the Senior Center alone, they are doing fine where they are. 6. The county shouldn’t compete with the current health and wellness centers, the Pump House, etc.

Shame on you for the thought.

These current businesses worked hard at creating what they have and now you want to cut their business is half? I don’t get that. 7. Have a few large areas in the Rec.

Park for parties, weddings and so on, with an indoor kitchen for such things.

Boom—we have just saved a lot of money and possibly have also found a way to support these projects.

That’s it. That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.
