Cook County Higher Education will feature Dr. Sam Tuthill, who will present What About Water at the next Guest Lecture Series on Thursday, June 21 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the North Shore Campus in Grand Marais.
Join Tuthill for his presentation regarding the distribution of water resources among populations on the North American continent. He will discuss water shortages, distributing Great Lakes water, and other issues and problems associated with relocating water.
Tuthill, a geologist, has a varied and prestigious background. He was appointed by President Ford as assistant administrator for conservation and environmental impacts for the Federal Energy Administration, and during that time served on the chief of the chairman’s staff, the President’s Energy Policy Council, as advisor to the secretary of commerce, and as director of the Industrial Energy Conservation Program of the Department of Commerce. He was a geology professor at Iowa State University and the University of Iowa, and also served as the state geologist and director for the Iowa Geological Survey. He and his wife Constance have lived in Cook County since 1990.
The Guest Lecture Series of Cook County Higher Education is offered to the community free, although donations are welcome. The series is sponsored by the Grand Marais State Bank, Drury Lane Books, George F. Maruska Ltd., and the Lake Superior Trading Post.
