Rural and Community Art Project Grant

Local Cook County organizations were awarded grants from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council on January 18, 2018.

The Good Harbor Hill Players of Grand Marais were awarded a $5,000 Rural and Community Art Project Grant to help support the Good Harbor Hill Players’ 2018 Summer Solstice Pageant, an outdoor pageant featuring large- and small-scale puppets and live music, celebrating the summer solstice. Participants draw, paint, sculpt and construct large-scale puppets, choreograph scenes, create and play the “soundtrack” and learn the art of stilt walking. All workshops will be free of charge and all will be welcomed and encouraged to participate. The show itself will take place in the commons area of North House Folk School on the harbor in Grand Marais on Saturday, June 23.

Two-Year Operating Support Grant

The Grand Marais Playhouse was awarded a $15,000 two-year operating support grant to help with the creation of a four-year transitional plan that will include clarified board and staff roles, evaluate programming, create a new staffing structure, and develop a succession plan.

The Arrowhead Regional Arts Council is a regional nonprofit that has been encouraging local arts development in northeastern Minnesota through arts funding and services for over 35 years.
