Runners, walkers, bikers needed for Torch Run June 19-20

Anyone interested in running, walking or biking with the Flame of Hope for even a short portion of the Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run in Cook County, is encouraged to register.

The Cook County Sheriff ’s Office, along with other local law enforcement agencies, is leading the charge to participate in the final leg of the Law Enforcement Torch run through Minnesota. The torch will be carried from the border to Tofte on Monday, June 19, and from Tofte to the county line on Tuesday, June 20. Cook County will accept the torch from our Canadian neighbors at the Grand Portage U.S. Port of Entry at a special ceremony the morning of Monday, June 19 and begin its journey down Highway 61.

“We invite everyone to join us and take advantage of this unique opportunity to represent Cook County and support the Special Olympics,” said Sheriff Pat Eliasen. “You don’t have to run, participants can walk or bike even a small distance and take part in this. And you don’t have to be law enforcement— we encourage everyone in the community to sign up.”

To register to be a Torch Run participant, waiver forms are available at the Cook County Law Enforcement Center at 143 Gunflint Trail or online at specialolympicsminnesota.org/get-involved/law-enforcement-torch-run/finalleg/

A $15 registration fee is required, but includes a Law Enforcement Torch Run T-Shirt. T-shirts and hats are also for sale for non-participants for a $15 donation. Registrations need to be received by Wednesday, June 14.
