When Cook County Housing and Redevelopment Authority Director Jason Hale learned that a rumor has been circulating about him, he wanted to promptly put an end to it. Some local residents have suggested that Hale is in business with a Duluth area builder who may or may not come and work on a building project in Grand Marais this summer.
When questioned about the rumor Hale responded, “I am saddened about the nature of the inquiry. If by “in business” you mean that I have some stake or share in any builder or developer’s company, or that I stand to make any sort of personal profit from a development that I am involved with in my role at the HRA, my response is emphatically: absolutely not. “I have a working relationship with the developer, of course, and that is why they are considering doing work in Grand Marais. “I take my integrity and ethical practice very seriously and would never be personally financially involved with a project that I was working on professionally.”
Jason was hired by the Cook County Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) last year and began work on April 25, 2022.
Upon his hiring, Jason, who came from the City of Duluth HRA, said, “I am delighted to be selected to serve as the Cook County HRA’s first Executive Director. We all know the challenge that finding and providing housing has become for our businesses, neighbors, and would-be residents. I am eager to work with the residents, businesses, local government and agency partners of Cook County to get more housing built and ensure people earning a variety of incomes have a safe, stable place to call home.”
A housing study released in July of 2022 projected that Cook County needs an additional 500 to 600 units of housing built to meet the demand. Hale is working hard to fulfil some of that need.
