Rumble strips could be removed

Thank you to Jerry Hiniker and Jeff Larson for their letters to the editor regarding the bane of all mankind in Cook County…rumble strips!

There is a group of folks trying to mobilize as many citizens as will take part to fight back on this. There have been some areas in Minnesota where the Department of Transportation has come back and filled them in. It is a long process and takes united concerted effort but it can be done.

The first thing we need to do is form a database of anyone willing to sign petitions, write emails, make phone calls or whatever it takes to get the powers to be at MN/DOT, our state legislators and the governor to hear us and to be tired of hearing us.

According to Rob Ege, who is the MN/ DOT district supervisor in Duluth, the DOT is putting these ridiculous strips on every two-lane road with a 55-mile an hour speed limit in the state.

Apparently the fact that Highway 61 along the North Shore is a designated scenic highway makes no difference.

I believe that these things will have the opposite effect of their intention. I believe they are dangerous! I also believe firmly that those folks whose homes are within hearing distance of the noise created when a vehicle goes over these things have had their property values seriously degraded. Who is going to buy a home with that kind of noise all day and night?

If you are willing to be on a list to fight back against MN/DOT please let me know. Contact me at drydoc@boreal.org. We need to mobilize and mobilize quickly.
