I have to say, “THANK GOD FOR RUMBLE STRIPS” after two scary Highway 61 driving experiences at night last winter during snowstorms when the rumble strips are the only thing that kept me from going off the road!
They have also righted me when daydreaming or lake-watching accidentally put me over the center line or fog line.
I am one of the complainers about the original rumble strips. After they were partially filled in, I never again heard a peep from the highway. I never hear anything at night anymore. I believe they are an effective tool to use for highway safety, but I think the filled in “Ripple Strips” are adequate. I do not believe we should completely eliminate them, especially in this age of electronic diversions.
