Ruby’s Pantry to hold a food drive

Ruby’s Pantry of Cook County is planning to hold a drive through food distribution on Tuesday April 14th at 5 p.m. in the parking lot of the Cook County Community Center. Ruby’s Pantry provides food they’ve gathered from various food overages, surpluses, and bumper crops into generous food bundles for a $20 contribution per bundle. However, due to the generosity of many people in Cook County, we can let people pay whatever they can afford for this month’s distribution, even if they cannot afford anything.

We will meet our guest’s vehicles at the entrance to the parking lot to find out the number of bundles they want and to collect the donation. Guests will drop their money or certificates into a basket, and a number will be put on their car for each bundle. Guests will then go into the parking lot where volunteers will load bundles into the trunks of the vehicles. Guest will remain in their car and are requested to make sure their trunks have space to load the food bundles.

Because there may be a line of vehicles at times, the Cook County Sheriff ’s Office has requested that we use Creechville Road (4th Avenue West) as a waiting area. Vehicles should enter Creechville Road from the Gunflint Trail end; the Fifth Street end will be closed.

These are changing times, and if anything changes between now and April 14, you can find details on the Cook County of Ruby’s Facebook page (facebook.com/ RubysPantryCC/). We will also publish the expected food list there on Monday.
