Ruby’s Pantry moves to a new location for election day

Ruby’s Pantry of Cook County will be holding a drive-through food distribution on Tuesday, August 11, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Because August 11 is Minnesota’s Primary Election day and the Community Center is a polling place, the distribution will be at a new location: the Cook County Highway Department facility.

Guests should use the Gunflint Trail entrance to the facility that is 200 yards north of the East Fifth Street intersection, just north of the Law Enforcement Center. They should be prepared to line up on the south shoulder of the Gunflint Trail, north and west of the entrance.

Vehicles will be met at the entrance to the facility and directed to the distribution area. There, volunteers will find out the number of bundles desired and collect any donations. Guests will drop their money or certificates into a basket and a number will be put on their car for each bundle. Guests will remain in their car and are requested to make sure their trunks have adequate space for volunteers to load their food bundles.

Ruby’s Pantry provides food gathered from various food overages, surpluses, and bumper crops into generous food bundles for a $20 donation per bundle. However, due to the generosity of many people in Cook County, people can just pay whatever they can afford, or just ask for a free food bundle.

Questions about the distribution or about volunteering can be sent to rubys@boreal.com. Details about the content of the food bundle should be available by Monday evening on facebook.com/ RubysPantryCC.
