Lutsen Mountains Co-President Tom Rider recognizes Rosie Somnis for her 50 years of service at Rosie’s Café at the main chalet at Lutsen Mountains.

For 50 years, Rosie Somnis has been welcoming people to the chalet at the base of Koo-Koo at Lutsen Mountains. The café is always crowded with skiers warming up with a tasty cheeseburger or a cup of Rosie’s chili. Many of those diners will be saddened to hear that this was Rosie’s last season overseeing the cozy chalet café.

At the Monday, April 11 end-of-season party for ski hill employees, Tom Rider, co-president of Lutsen Mountains, gave a speech commending Rosie for her years of service and high standards of cleanliness, which he dubbed “Rosie Clean.”

Staffers at the ski hill once calculated the number of hamburgers that Rosie served in a year. That number has been lost, but everyone agrees, McDonald’s has nothing on Rosie.

Also retiring are Rosie’s longtime employees Diane Lindbergh and Julie Aldinger.
