Ronald J. Olson, 83, of Grand Marais, passed away on Oct. 4, 2017 at Ecumen Lakeshore in Duluth.
Ron was born in Grand Marais on June 21, 1934 to Catherine (Scott) Olson and Ernest Olson Sr. He was a Grand Portage band member.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Nov. 20, 1956 and served as a medic until his honorable discharge on Dec. 31, 1962. He then worked at several local gas stations including Pete’s Shell, Gene’s Standard and 23 years at Mike’s Holiday.
In addition to his parents, Ron is preceded in death by brothers Warner (Janet) Olson, and Ernest Jr. and Shirley Olson; sisters Florence (Andrew) Johnson, Irene (Oliver) Sundquist, and Louise (Les) Degeberg; nephews Edward Olson, Larry Sundquist and Mickey Degeberg; nieces Maxine Johnson and Linda Smith; and special friend Marigold Linnell.
He is survived by sister-in-law Ellen Olson of Grand Portage; nephews Scott, Terry, Christopher, Andy, Tom, John, David, Donnie, Jim and Ronald; and nieces Debbie, Sheryl, Sandra, Diane, Wendy and Kathy. Ron is also survived by many cousins and was the last grandchild of Hungry Jack Scott.
At Ron’s request there will be no service.
Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Minnesota in Duluth.
