Rena Rogers’ hectic seven years at the helm of the Cook County IT department will soon end as she retires, and Rowan Watkins takes over in her place. A retirement party was held for Rogers on the courthouse lawn on Tuesday, August 31. Thanking Rogers for her service was County Administrator James Joerke, North Shore Hospital/Care Center Director Kimber Wraalstad, former EDA Director Mary Somnis, Visit Cook County Director Linda Jurek, former County Commissioner Myron Bursheim, retired IT employee Kevin Twiest, and several other speakers.

Rogers did double duty during the COVID-19 pandemic when she stepped up to the plate to take over as interim county administrator in the wake of the previous administrator leaving to take a new job. She worked for a year in both positions until the county hired James Joerke to fill the administrator role.

Rogers told the crowd that she will remain living in the county and continue as a member of the school board and look for other opportunities to contribute once she has caught up on some much-needed rest.
