Robb Hackett will soon be leaving for Nashville, Tennessee, where he will undergo treatment for bone cancer. Treatment is expected to take five months and will be costly. That said, the community has been rallying around Hackett and his family through his ordeal. Last Saturday a “Good Luck Potluck” fundraiser and silent auction was held at the community center with more than 150 people attending.
“I was overwhelmed with the support from businesses in the community. They gave generously to the silent auction. Far more than I would have thought. And folks came from all over, from the Twin Cities, from the shore, my old high school classmates from Silver Bay, so many people came to show support for me.”
Robb will undergo bone marrow transplants from someone who volunteered that was virtually a perfect match. “The donor was a ten out of ten match. I couldn’t have been luckier. The doctors tell me they caught this soon enough, so I have a chance to beat this cancer and that’s what I intend to do. I want to thank the community again for their outpouring of support and well-wishes. It means a lot to me. More than words can really express.”
If you would like to donate, please send a check or drop off a check/cash in Robb’s name to the Grand Marais State Bank. Robb will not receive any short term or longterm disability because he was just starting a new job. Any help you can give him will be greatly appreciated.
