Rob Roy “Nipper” McCampbell of Tofte died peacefully at home on Oct. 19, 2015. He was 86.
Born Oct. 25, 1929 in Binghamton, New York, Rob attended Minneapolis West High School and graduated from Breck Military Academy in 1947. He went on to graduate from Princeton University in 1951, where he majored in history and was an avid member of the lacrosse squad.
Rob served in the U.S. Navy and was a Korea War veteran.
Rob had many careers and many things that brought him joy. He coached ice hockey, enjoyed fishing with his sons, played banjo, and loved the majestic white pines at his cabin on Pancore Lake. He loved his wife Perihan, whom he met while pursuing another of his passions on a trip to Turkey to buy the rugs he so admired for their artistry.
Rob is survived by his wife Perihan; his sons
Duncan and Duff; his daughter Sarah; and grandchildren Christian and Cameron. Rob will be remembered for his smile, his stories and his rugs.
Funeral services were held Oct. 21 at Fort Snelling with full military honors.
