Richard Sigfried Johnson




Richard Sigfried Johnson, 91, passed away at home after a long illness on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016.

He was born and lived in Two Harbors, moved to Silver Bay, and in retirement, to Grand Marais. He moved to Littleton, Colo., in 2007.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy, his three children and their families: Carmen Vincent, Gary Johnson and wife Cynthia, Yvonne Gasser and husband

Michael; four grandchildren: Courtney Duffy, Rebecca Rivera, Benjamin Johnson, and Molly Johnson; two great-grandsons; and brother Warren. He was predeceased by his parents Sigfried and Emma Johnson, and by his brother Curtis and son-in-law John Vincent.

He was a member of Christ on the Mountain Catholic Church, Lakewood, Colo. and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Legion and served in the Air Force during World War II. He worked for the DM&IR Railroad, Two Harbors. He moved to Silver Bay in 1955 and worked for Reserve Mining Company. He was a member of the American Welding Society. Later in life he became a potter and owned Bay Area Pottery.

A funeral was held on Friday, Oct. 28 in Lakewood and burial will be in Two Harbors at a later date.
