The North Shore Music Association and Grand Marais Public Library will host Ricardo Lemvo, celebrated pioneer of Afro-Cuban/ pan-African music, at 1 p.m. June 11 at the library.
Lemvo will perform and teach about the history of Afro-Cuban music in a family program for all ages. He is a talented speaker who engages audiences with the fascinating history of Afro-Cuban music — from its roots in Africa, on to Cuba, back to Africa, and eventually to the U.S.
In this fun and interactive program, Lemvo captivates people from 1 to 101 through story, song, and rhythms that illustrate the intriguing way the music has been shaped and modified throughout its geographical journey.
Congo-born of Angolan ancestry, Lemvo is the embodiment of the Afro-Latin Diaspora, which connects back to Mother Africa via the Cuban clave rhythm. Since forming his Los Angeles-based band Makina Loca in 1990, Lemvo has refined his craft and vision, raising his joyous voice with strength, singing songs that celebrate life.
Lemvo has performed throughout Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Australia.
Lemvo will also perform at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts in Grand Marais with Makina Loca at 7:30 p.m. June 11. Tickets will be for sale at the door.
