On Sunday, December 2, the Life in Christ Lutheran Church installed their newly called pastor, the Reverend Dean Rudloff. Pastor Rudloff has been serving Life in Christ Lutheran Church since November of 2011 as their vacancy pastor until the congregation extended him a Call to be their pastor.
Officiating at the service were Rev. David Schoessow of Christ Lutheran Church, Superior, Wisconsin; Rev. Don Fondow, Minnesota North District President; and Rev. Robert Franck, Lake Superior Circuit Counselor.
Rev. Rudloff is originally from Carver County, MN and is a graduate of Waconia High School; Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska; and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri.
He was a principal and teacher in the Lutheran School system for 33 years before entering the ministry. As an educator, he taught at Immanuel, Gaylord, MN; St. John’s, rural Arlington, MN; St. Paul Lutheran in Latimer, Iowa; and St. John’s Lutheran in Adrian, Michigan. He served as a director of Christian Education at St. Paul Lutheran in Lester Prairie before being commissioned by Faith Lutheran Church, Silver Bay and the MN North District of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, to “plant” a LCMS church in Cook County during the years leading up to 2000.
Pastor Rudloff explains that this was accomplished through the strength of a core group of church members in Grand Marais and the surrounding area. Following this, he entered into the seminary to begin his studies into the pastoral ministry.
As a graduate of Concordia Seminary, he was ordained and Called to serve Trinity Lutheran Church in Medford, MN., where he served the past 10 years.
Upon “retiring,” he and his wife Janice returned to the Silver Bay area. There, he and his wife Janice have owned and operated Lax Lake Resort since 1973. They also started and operated for a time “The Fun ‘n Fancy” and “NE MN Bible and Gift Center” in Beaver Bay.
They are parents of four grown children and grandparents of 10 grandchildren.
Pastor Rudloff says his most immediate goal is to see Life in Christ Lutheran Church become a visible and active part of the community and Cook County. That means moving from an hour-a-week presence at the Cook County Community Center to full presence in having a church building on their own piece of land. In the meantime, Pastor Rudloff hopes to become known in Grand Marais and Cook County by his service to the community and his compassion for people.
