Cook County residents are invited to attend a thank you open house hosted by soon-to-be-former District Judge Kenneth A. Sandvik in the Cook County courtroom from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19. In fact, Judge Sandvik’s invitation is to “former jurors, stakeholders, former stakeholders, gruntled litigants, friends of the Court, and indeed all citizens of Cook County.”
Sandvik said he wants to thank the people for the many kindnesses shown him over 26-plus years on the bench in Cook County. He has spent 1,265 days on the bench here through 2009 and is on track to pass 1,300 before he hangs up his robe at the end of December. Sandvik has had the opportunity to serve the citizens since November 1986.
“Cook County is a special place and I have enjoyed immensely the many people I have gotten to know in my time up here. I wish to thank as many as are of a mind to stop by for coffee and cake,” he said. “While the future is cloudy in terms of what it will bring for the judicial system generally and its place in Cook County in particular, my 26 years here have been a great ride,” he said.
“It is humbling in a good way to have worked in a place where justice is very personal and the judge in particular is a real person. Please join me for coffee and cake.”
