Results of the conference track meet

The boys’ and girls’ varsity track teams traveled to Two Harbors on Wednesday, May 27, to participate in the Polar League track meet.

Viking girls

The Vikings took ninth out of 12 teams in the conference meet, scoring 27 points. Esko won the meet with 209 points.

In the 1600-meter (one-mile run), Anna Hay (5:55.06) and Malin Anderson (5:56.56) both broke six minutes, placing sixth and eighth. Cecelia Chmelik ran 7:09.16 to place 22nd.

Sprinting to the finish line, Anna Hay again nipped her teammate Malin Anderson in the 800-meter (1/2 mile), clocking 2:45.64 to 2:45:89. Anna and Malin placed 7th and 8th with their fine runs.

Molly Lavigne placed 5th in the 400 meters with a time of 67.14. Molly finished 10th in the 200 meters in 30.11 and 10th in the 100-meter run in 14.19.

MJ Wharton placed 24th in the 200-meter run, crossing the finish line in 33.72, and right behind her was Olivia Nesgoda, who ran 34.34 to finish 25th.

Zoey Kacures placed 25th in the 100 meters in 16.59, and Grace Ritchey crossed the finish line in 27th place in 17.59 seconds.

Olya Wright took fifth place in the 3,200 meters (two-mile run), crossing the finish line in 13:26.03. Olya also placed 13th in the 300- meter hurdles with a time of 63.59. Sylvia Hansen was right behind Olya, taking 14th in 67.39.

The Vikings 4×400 meter relay team took sixth place with a time of 5:03.54.

Hailey Smith placed eighth in the shot with a throw of 26 feet one inch and 13th in the discus with 61 feet 8 inches. Hailey’s throw in the shot put was tied with the seventh-place finisher from Carlton.

Sophia Sheehan (10’- 9”), Grace Ritchey (10’-6”), and Emma Crook (9’-11”) placed 18, 19, and 20th in the long jump.

The Vikings 4×800 meter team placed third with a time of 12:42.40.

Viking boys

A young Viking boys team took eleventh place with 11 points in the meet. Once again, Esko, by far the largest school in the conference, won with 179 points.

Jonah Schmidt was 14th in the 400-meter run with a time of 61.70. Danny Berka placed 17th and Tanner DeBoer 18th, running 63.6 and 64.06.

Kevin Viren ran 2:21.29 to finish 8th n the 800 meters. Noah Haussner placed 16th in 2:42.7 and Andrew Hallberg was 20tth with a time of 3:00.36.

In the 1600 meters, Kevin Viren ran 5:00.75 to place 9th overall. Brayden Schmidt ran 5:19.3 to finish 13th and Kyler Hansen took 18th place, crossing the line in 5:37.29.

Three Viking runners toed the starting line in the 3200 meters. Keean Selin placed 12th with a time of 12:41.62. Isaac Schmidt finished 16th in 14:13.34 and Haddon Taylor was 17th in 14:18.30.

The boys 4×800 meter relay team placed fourth with a time of 10:02.93, and the boys’ 4×100 meter relay and 4×200 meter relay teams finished 10th, with the 4×400 meter relay team taking 8th.

Three junior high boys competed in the long jump. Aanakwad Redix jumped 11 feet 1.5 inches to nip his teammate Eddie Larson who jumped 11 feet 1 inch. Rylan Brown leaped 10 feet 4 inches. The boys placed 19th, 20th and 22nd. The boys and girls don’t have long jump pit to practice in, so they get their practice at track meets.

Ninth graders Calvin Battees and Arlo Christensen placed 19th and 21st in the shot put with throws of 29 feet 11 inches and 25 feet five inches. Silas Ekstrom, an eighth grader, placed 23rd with a throw of 11 feet five inches.

Calvin Battees placed 16th in the discus with a throw of 80 feet 1.5 inches; Arlo Christiansen was 22nd with a throw of 53 feet 2.5 inches and Silas Ekstrom placed 24th with a throw of 23 feet 8 inches
