Residential energy workshop Oct. 27




Cook County Higher Education (CCHE) and Cook County Local Energy Project (CCLEP) will host a residential energy workshop for area contractors, builders and anyone interested in residential energy issues. The workshop is part of the educational component of the Residential Energy Efficiency Program, REEP.

The workshop will take place at 300 W. St., Grand Marais, on Saturday, Oct. 27. Sign-in and registration is from 7:30 – 8 a.m. with the workshop from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. There is a discounted workshop fee of $95 through Sunday, Oct. 21. After October 22 the fee will be $110. Lunch will be served.

Presenter Don Sivigny will cover residential energy issues that include ventilation and building science strategies, building durability, radon gas and an introduction to the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).

Sivigny, State Energy Specialist since 2001 and Senior Building Code representative in the state building code unit, is known nationally for his work. He is a certified building official, licensed builder with Minnesota and HRAE certified in residential mechanical ventilation system designs and installations. Sivigny has served on the State Education Committee, the Annual Institute for Building Officials Committee, and the board of directors for the regional chapter of ICC. He was awarded the Russell Smith Educator of the year award in 2005 and has authored two books on energy issues and building energy codes and contributed to six other publications.

REEP is designed to help homeowners make informed choices about energy improvements to their home with the use of a blower door and infrared camera imaging and resource consultations. More information on this pilot program is at www.cookcountylep.org. or email localenergy@boreal.org
