As planned earlier this year, State Representative David Dill, Crane Lake, underwent a kidney transplant on Tuesday, October 12 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. According to a press release from Dill’s family, the procedure went as scheduled, and he was up walking and feeling well the following day. Dill was feeling well enough to return to the Capitol for a one-day special session on Monday, October 18.

Rep. Dill was greeted with applause as he entered the house to vote on the disaster relief package for southern Minnesota. He thanked his constituents and colleagues and said, “I’m here today and ready to get back to work.”

Dill and the kidney donor scheduled the surgery with the hope that Dill will be completely recovered when the legislature convenes in January 2011. When Dill visited Grand Marais in August, he said it would be an extremely difficult session as the state attempts to deal with a $6 billion-plus deficit.

Dill faces Republican candidate Jim Tuomala, of Ely, in the November general election.
