Remember to register your boat!

Whether the lakes are free enough of ice to allow fishing on opening weekend or not, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reminds boaters to check the registration on their watercraft.

It’s been a long winter and everyone is eager to get out on the water. Fingers are still crossed that lakes will be open for fishing opener on May 10. In anticipation of the fishing and boating season, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds everyone to make sure their boat has the proper registration displayed.

When you are loading your safety gear and fishing tackle, take a look at the decals and make sure they are up-to-date.

All watercraft licenses expire on December 31 of the last year the license is valid. Normally, you will receive a notice in the mail to remind you to renew for another three-year period. But whether you get the card in the mail or not, you are responsible for renewing the license for your watercraft.

You can register your watercraft in person at any motor vehicles office or online at www.licenses.dnr.state. mn.us.

It’s also a good idea to pick up the 2014 Minnesota Boating Guide to review all the safety requirements before heading out to catch some fish.
