Religious scholars don’t turn off their thinking caps

Karen and Pat Neal’s Letter to
the Editor
of June 19 caught my interest for a couple of reasons. First, I was wondering why they would so publicly insult and attempt to degrade a substantial number of their neighbors, friends, and apparently relatives, with such a thoughtless and shallow letter. “Religious people just turn off their thinking caps!” Really! I guess that must put us in company with the likes of Martin Luther, John Wesley, Thomas Aquinas, Augustine, Martin Luther King, John Calvin, Charles Finney and a host of other scholars who did nothing other than “think” about religion. Pretty nice company in my opinion.

Thesecond reason the letter caught my interest is I wondered who among their neighbors, friends, and apparently relatives, would really care what these two thought about people that are “religious” given their puerile approach to the issue.
