In 1802 Thomas Jefferson wrote to a Baptist church group that there must be “a wall of separation between church and State.” He might have said, “a wall of separation between religion and politics”!
Ever since the founding of the United States religion and politics have at times clandestinely walked hand-in-hand and at times dated. Recently they have gone so far as to openly become bedfellows.
It is appalling what today male dominated religion and politics are preaching about women and their bodies and how a god in his infinite wisdom makes it possible for a female egg to reject the male sperm if it is coming at it as a result of a forcible or illegitimate rape. (I wonder how many childless married women feel that their inability to have children is a sign of their husbands raping them?)
It is time we reject this nonsensical preaching and speak up against it in an open-minded forum where we can converse freely, intelligently and respectfully as true humanists. Email me at ibjorth@boreal.org if you are interested.
