T-ball wrapped up last week with the Turtles finishing the season in a double header against the Moose and the Blue Jays. There were lots of smiles from players and parents. After the games ended medals were handed out. All the players left with big smiles on their faces. Great season, everyone!
I would like to thank the parents who donated their time to help the kids have an enjoyable season. We wouldn’t be able to do this without help from parents. Thank you from Community Ed.
Parent Pitch competition heats up
The regular season for Parent Pitch also ended last week. The Thunderbirds played a double header against the Lions (they made up a rained out game) winning both games. The Lions have played many close games this season but are on the young side and have found it hard to get many wins. I would like to commend them for playing hard all season. Watch out for the Lions in the play-offs!
In the other game the Lumberjacks defeated the Yankees by five runs. The bats of the Lumberjacks were too much for the Yankees in this one. The Yankees dominated the first half of the season, but the rest of the league has caught up.
The Yankees finished as champions of the regular season. The Lumberjacks finished in second place with the Thunderbirds and Lions finishing third and fourth respectively.
Before this paper reaches you, the first round of the playoffs will be over. The championship game will be played at the Little League field on Sunday, July 31 at 4:00 p.m. Good luck to all our teams!
Twins finish regular season in first place
Little League wrapped up its regular season as well this week. The Silver Bay Twins came to town on Tuesday for a double header. The Cubs played them in the first game. It was a good back-and-forth match with the Cubs winning in dramatic fashion in the last inning. The Dodgers were next up for the Twins from Silver Bay. The game was forced to start late due to a late start of the first game. I don’t know how long they were able to play before it got too dark.
On Sunday, the last game of the regular season was played between the Cubs and the Twins. The Twins won in easy fashion with a pair of home runs in the game. The season ended with the Twins in first place, the Dodgers in second place and the Cubs in third place. That gives the Twins a first round bye in the play-offs. So the Dodgers will face the Cubs to see who will play the Twins for the championship on Sunday.
The championship game will be held at the Little League field on July 31 right after the Parent Pitch championship game (about 6:00 p.m.).
I would also like to thank the Silver Bay Little League players, coaches and parents for being such great hosts to our Little Leaguers. I hope we can continue to expand the playing opportunities for our youth.
Thank you from Cook County Youth Baseball and Community Ed.
