Will you be a part of the holiday tradition that begins the Friday after Thanksgiving? Everyone is welcome to ring the bell or offer music at Salvation Army kettles in Cook County.
This is the only fundraiser enabling Cook County’s Salvation Army service unit to provide services in our community. Funds raised are often used in local emergency situations as when a family or individual needs food, fuel, or short-term shelter that other agencies can’t provide. The Service Unit also budgets (according to raised funds) for other projects like Merry Christmas for All; the local Food Shelf; school supplies; an Easter project; and socks, hats, or mittens for elementary students.
Each volunteer who tends one of the four large kettles in Grand Marais, Grand Portage, or Tofte is the key to a successful campaign that will meet the above mentioned needs and projects.
Volunteers can attend a kettle at a time fitting their schedule on Monday to Saturday from Friday, November 26 to the afternoon of Christmas Eve. Volunteers who offer music during their time at the kettle are especially appreciated!
Some volunteers make this time a “giving tradition” with their children. Others like to make their kettle time more fun by wearing a holiday costume instead of the Salvation Army bell ringer’s apron. Whatever option you choose, the important part is your friendly presence!
If you can help “ring in the holidays” by volunteering, contact Mary Sanders, kettle campaign coordinator, at 387-1729 or email her at msanders@boreal.org. She will confirm a time for you in Grand Marais or will refer you to a coordinator in Grand Portage or Tofte if that is where you would like to serve.
