For more information about the proposed new recreation center, please visit www.boreal.org and click “Public Service Announcements” and then the post by Gail Anderson entitled “Facts about the Proposed Cook County Recreation Center.”
The building in question was not to be called a “warming house” but a “rec. center” or “field house” to encompass all of the entities it would be housing and accommodating. It is in fact a year-round building that needs no staffing. The building will provide a home to up to 12 user groups!
Cook County Amateur Hockey has been fighting and waiting for a very long time to put our program on the map and to offer our community more than a shack and some run down boards.
We live in the “State of Hockey.” If you build it, they will come. Cliché? Yes. True? Yes. Our numbers will increase if we have a facility suitable for the needs of our community. We are not asking for more than our community can handle. Neither the slab nor the field house will require extensive maintenance or upkeep, therefore the investment to this community and to the youth is priceless.
With declining numbers in our schools, we need to look at why. Our community, however unique and amazing it is, does not offer what others do. With more to offer, it may be a draw for potential families.
An idea of what the building can do for the community is this: Hosting one jamboree on a twoday weekend has the potential of boosting our economy by $40,000- plus in the winter. And hockey is the only winter sport that would prefer to not have snow! If you support this project, please inform your commissioner.
