Recount for the 3A race between Skraba and Ecklund

When the votes were tallied after the November 5 general election the challenger, Ely Mayor Roger Skraba (R), led incumbent Rob Ecklund (DFL) by 15 votes in the race for the Minnesota House 3A seat.

At that time, Skraba was credited with 10,868 votes, while Ecklund had 10,853.

Because of the close count, the state mandates a publicly funded recount. That process started in Cook, Itasca, and St. Louis Counties on Monday, December 5 at 9 a.m., with the recount to end in Lake County on Wednesday, December 7. Following the recount Ecklund conceded the race, praising the election system in Minnesota.

While Rob Ecklund lost his House seat in the tight race, he won the popular vote in Cook County, picking up 2,235 votes to 979 for Roger Skraba.

Only one vote was challenged in Cook County during the recount, a vote for Ecklund that was sealed in an envelope and sent to the Secretary of State.
