Another busy summer and fall season are coming to a close at the Grand Marais Rec Park.
Addressing the Grand Marais Rec Park board on Wednesday, October 5, manager Dave Tersteeg told the park board, “September revenue was robust and edged out 2021 totals by just $824 on roughly $240,000. Our plus 4.5 percent trend over 2021 revenue continues leading into the final month of the money-making season.”
The upcoming MEA weekend has a lot of reservations, but Tersteeg said they are “closely watching temperatures and telling guests we will be winterizing once we see lows in the 20s and highs in the 30s.”
Park staff has begun winterizing and deep cleaning bath houses, noted Tersteeg, as the onset of cold weather draws nearer and nearer.
A timber frame picnic shelter was put in at the marina the second week of September and the board discussed whether to leave it there or move it. No decision was made at the meeting.
Park staff painted the Grand Marais sign located near Java Moose and are now focusing on the “Bear in the Boat” sign on the stone gateway across the street from the Grand Marais Library.
Boats are being removed from the new harbor marina. Two 38-footers are now in winter storage in the softball parking lot, said Tersteeg.
Once again, the Violence Prevention Center is hosting a “Tree of Hope” in Harbor Park all month. On Thursday, October 27, at 6 p.m. there will be a candlelight vigil around the purple-lit tree.
