Rec. Park Master Plan ready for review

The Grand Marais Park Board has been meeting with the public and working with Carduus Consulting for months and has developed a final Recreation Park Master Plan for the public to review and comment on. The final public forum will be held Tuesday, July 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the Recreation Hall at the campground (just south of the pool).

At its last regular Park Board meeting on July 7, the park board reached consensus on what it would like to see at the Rec. Park and formulated a list of elements for Carduus Consultant Bob Bruce to incorporate into a final design map.

Visit www.GrandMaraisRecreationArea.com and follow the “Master Plan” link to download and review draft documents of the planning process. For further information contact the Park office at 387-1712 or email: recpark@boreal.org. Park board recommendations

for final plan »» Keep the DNR boat ramp where it is.

»» Feature but do not expand the

existing wetlands.

»» When the ball field is relocated,

replace with full-service RV sites.

»» Save room in the southeast corner

for an events pavilion.

»» Retain most of the camping sites

east of 8th Avenue.

»» Remove two campsites adjacent

to North House to make room for a

walking path.

»» Connect the park with the

motorized trail to the west.

»» Upgrading the campsites and

building a better office building will

be priorities.

»» Make no projections regarding

future changes to the marina and

harbor.

»» Build a boardwalk along the

lakeshore that would connect to the Honeymoon Bluff trail system.
