The renowned Irish band The HiBs
will visit Cook County next week as part of the St. Patrick’s Day festivities at Cascade Lodge.
Lodge owner Maureen O’Phelan said the group will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. on March 12 and 13. They will play “rock solid, first-rate traditional music,” she said.
“They were the cofounders of the Center for Irish Music in St. Paul. They have been together for 12 years, have played all over the world, and I think it will be a real treat to have them in Cook County,” O’Phelan said.
The HiBs
(pronounced High Bees) are Kate and Jode Dowling and an array of talented friends. HiBs
is short for Hibernian— the Roman name for Ireland, but the name
was also inspired by one of their favorite pubs in Cork City. Kate and Jode are masters of flute, tin whistle, and fiddle.
For concert performances, they are joined by talented guitarists, singers, percussionists (bodhran) and by dancers displaying the traditional old-style Sean-nos steps.
The HiBs
play and teach true, straightforward traditional Irish music at festivals, pubs, weddings, private and corporate events, schools, formal concerts, dances and sessions.
