On August 8 there will be a reading of National Monuments Poems written by Heid E. Erdrich

Sept. 12, tentatively scheduled is Portage Lake Memoirs of an Ojibwe Childhood by Maude Kegg.

Books will be read prior to the session. During the meeting together there will be a discussion of a selected reading and author.

“Our goal will be to examine these authors’ works in contexts of cultural and historical significance that will illuminate the meaningful ‘work’ they do for Native and non-Native readers,” said Carol Miller.

“Minnesota is fortunate indeed to be homeland to many vibrant populations of Native nations. And our region is consequently also home to a rich and important body of Native American literature,” added Miller.

Carol Miller is an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and a Morse Alumni Distinguished Teaching Professor (Emerita) of the Dept. of American Indian Studies and the Program in American Studies at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
