I am badly delinquent in writing this letter as I wanted to get it to the paper right after my friend, Rhonda Silence, retired from the News-Herald. Oh well, better late than never they say. I want to thank you Rhonda for 16 years of great, well-thought-out columns and balanced and accurately reported news stories. Your columns were sometimes funny, sometimes sobering, sometimes chiding but always insightful and fair. While there is, I suppose, always the temptation for a local newspaper to act as a cheerleader for the community, I always found your news stories succinct, accurate and fair; what a pleasant surprise.
And speaking of surprises I was most surprised at the little mention the News-Herald made of your retirement and the 16 years of being a great columnist, reporter and editor for our community newspapers. Well, I just want you to know that this regular reader will miss you each week. Best of luck in your new career at WTIP!
