Superior National at Lutsen golf course was a sea of pink on Sunday, September 13 as 77 golfers participated in the 20th annual “Rally for the Cure” women’s 18-hole golf scramble.
Even the golf carts were decorated in pink for the two-day event that started on Saturday with practice rounds and a social hour.
“We were thrilled to host a Rally event to honor this special milestone,” said Heath Ekstrom, PGA head professional and rally ambassador at Superior National. “This event is a fun way for us to bring together our members, the community, golfers from around the state and Canada to support an important cause while playing a sport they are passionate about.
“This has been our eighth time hosting the event and I couldn’t be prouder of all of our golfers and the awareness this event raises in the fight against breast cancer,” added Ekstrom.
Rally has been a partner of the Susan G. Komen Foundation since 1996. Over that time its volunteers have organized golf, tennis and social events and have worked to educate women about breast cancer and remind them to get their screening. More than 2.5 million people have joined with the organization since 1996 to raise money and awareness about breast cancer, raising more than $77 million through fundraising events like the one held at Superior National.
“We raised over $4,200 on Sunday,” said Ekstrom.
“We were very honored to have Superior National at Lutsen celebrate our 20th anniversary year,” said Diane Perillo, program manager, Rally for a Cure. “The success of Rally is attributed to thousands of ambassadors who have volunteered to support this cause by hosting a Rally at their clubs. Their enthusiasm, energy and support are paramount in helping Susan G. Komen fund breast cancer research and community outreach programs.”
