Join in the renovation of the Rain Garden near the Grand Marais Library on July 25, 5 p.m.
The Grand Marais Community is invited to join the next Work and Learn party at the Library Garden on Monday evening, July 25, from 5 p.m. until 6-6:30 p.m. The plan is to restore the garden to it natural beauty. As you weed you will learn about the importance of rain gardens in controlling surface water pollution to streams and the Big Lake. Bring gloves, bug repellent, and any tools to help dig out grasses that have choked this garden.
The Cook County chapter of Minnesota Interfaith Power and Light (MNIPL) in collaboration with the Cook County Master Gardeners, began this project on July 12. Our purpose is to inform and inspire community members to act to prevent polluting surface waters from running into the Lake through the planting and care of rain gardens.
On Saturday, July 16, around ten people joined in to make a major start. There is still much work to do, so any available hands would be welcome.
Our ultimate goal is to provide on-going care for this garden, originally installed in 2016 with a grant from the MN Legacy Fund, to provide educational signage, and to encourage others to plant and care for rain gardens.
