Rain took care of most of the baseball games the week of June 19. T-ball players got their games in and also got to smile for picture day. Picture day always takes a little patience on the part of the players and parents, but I think it went well. All the kids looked great in their new shirts and hats. They also had lots of fun on the field. From one week to the next it’s great to see them learning so much.
Parent Pitch had some rainouts, but we also had some great games. The Yankees just keep on winning. All of their games have been close, but so far they have won them all. The Lumberjacks’ only loss has been to the Yankees and there will be a rematch with them very soon. The Lions and Thunderbirds continue to improve and play well, but they are still at the bottom of the standings. All our Parent Pitch teams are very competitive and well coached. The future of Cook County baseball looks to be bright.
Parent Pitch standings are Yankees in first, followed closely by the Lumberjacks. The Lions and Thunderbirds are in third and fourth, but are looking to climb up the standings in the second half of the season.
The Twins are now in control of the Little League season. They rebounded after their only loss to the Cubs with big wins over the Dodgers and the Cubs. They have now put some distance between themselves and the rest of the league.
Twins games against Silver Bay on May 23 were rained out. They will be rescheduled for a later date.
The Dodgers just got done with their trip to Silver Bay for a double header. They played two Silver Bay teams very well. Winning the first game against the SB Twins, 12 to 3. They lost the second game 5 to 1 to the Silver Bay Brewers. It’s a hard task to take both games of a double header in Silver Bay.
The Cubs have seen some adversity in the last few weeks. They have had to play with some of their better players out of town and one of their pitchers was unable to continue playing. They still managed to play to a tie with the Dodgers on Sunday. Both teams decided not to over extend their pitching staffs into extra innings.
The Cubs then lost a lopsided game to the Twins. The Cubs were forced to put two rookie pitchers on the mound against the Twins’ big-hitting line up. Both Marcus and Skyler did a great job on the mound in their first outings. Bradley Wilson of the Twins pitched a nearly perfect game and the Twins ran away with the game. The Cubs coaching staff is very proud of the way the kids battled despite being short-handed.
Little League standings are Twins in first, followed by the Dodgers in second. The Cubs currently sit in third place.
On July 12, the Brewers from Silver Bay will come to town for a double header. Don’t miss it.
