Hannah C. Heyer was painting under the lights 20 minutes to midnight on Monday, September 12. Hannah was competing in the 2022 Competition Class of the Plein Air Grand Marais Festival of outdoor painting on the North Shore of Lake Superior. The competition ran from August 15 to September 16, 2022. During the competition week, daily paint-outs were held at Artists’ Point, Kadunce River, and other access points of the Superior Hiking Trail, Sugarloaf Cove, Gunflint Trail and nocturnal places in Grand Marais.

In its 20th year, Plein Air Grand Marais has brought outdoor painters to the North Shore of Lake Superior for a week of spirited competition, classes, learning and camaraderie. Since 2018, Outdoor Painters of Minnesota has organized the event with the Cook County Historical Society’s Johnson Heritage Post Art Gallery, acting as the festival’s host.
