Grand Marais Public Utility Commission (PUC) workers took a break on Thursday, June 17, 2010 to celebrate a colleague’s accomplishment—the completion of lineworker apprenticeship by Jeff Eliasen. Eliasen is now a Journeyman Power Lineworker.
” Electrical Superintendent Mike Taylor announced that Eliasen had completed all the requirements of the State of Minnesota power delivery program through Northwest Lineman College. He happily presented Eliasen with a certificate from Northwest College which recognized Eliasen’s training “in the areas of construction, maintenance, and operation of power generation, transmission, and distribution systems.”
Eliasen also received a Minnesota Journeyman Power Lineworker Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship with the Grand Marais Public Utilities Commission.
In addition to the certification he worked four years to obtain, Eliasen received a round of applause from his city co-workers and many family members and friends—and Taylor presented him with a special award—a lineman bobblehead. Everyone enjoyed a delicious cake decorated, of course, with a lineworker.
And finally, PUC staff also presented Eliasen with a T-shirt depicting a line worker high atop a power pole with the statement, “I fight battles 35 feet in the air. What do you do for a living?”
