When it came time to vote on the five essays submitted to the Grand Marais Public Utilities Commission (PUC) essay contest, the three members of the PUC, Karl Hansen, Tim Kennedy and George Wilkes, each had a different idea—and vote—about which essay was best.
While all of the essays were well written, in the end the one crafted by Brenna Hay came in first. Brenna will be awarded $500 and a chance to compete in the statewide PUC contest.
Kaylee Cronberg finished second and will be awarded $300 while Emma Olfson placed third and will receive $200.
The PUC board met on April 1 to make its decision.
