Public meetings on county bonding coming up next week

A public information session about the process and the purpose for the county’s proposed Capital Improvement Bonds (CIP) will be held on Monday, April 9, 2018, at 6 p.m. in the Commissioners Room of the Cook County Courthouse.

Projects include road and bridge improvements with an expected cost of $7,000,000. The local Transportation Sales Tax authorized by the Cook County Board of Commissioners on September 27, 2016 will fund these projects.

Other Capital Improvements with an expected cost of approximately $2,400,000, include roof and window improvements at the courthouse and window improvements at the Law Enforcement Center, public works improvements including the construction of a new public works facility in Hovland, park improvements to the community center outdoor park, and various other eligible projects including lighting upgrades in eligible county facilities.

Representatives from Ehlers Inc. will be on hand to give a brief presentation on the purpose and the process of issuing Capital Improvement Bonds.

Ehlers is an independent municipal financial advisory company that has worked with Cook County on several projects. According to their website they state, “Our fiduciary duty is helping local governments, school districts, and state agencies find the financial resources they need to build the communities they envision.”

At the public meeting an updated list of projects and descriptions of these projects will also be available for review and questions.

On February 27, the Cook County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution calling for public hearings on a Capital Improvement Plan and on the Intent to Issue Capital Improvements Bonds Under Minnesota Statutes, Section 373.40 in an amount not to exceed $9,875,000.

Commissioners will be taking action on the proposed Capital Improvement Bonds on Tuesday, April 10, after the scheduled public hearing at 10 a.m., in the Commissioners Room of the Cook County Courthouse.

Everyone is welcome to attend these public meetings.
