Public hearing for possible sale of lots at the Cedar Grove Business Park

There will be a public hearing on August 5 at 4 p.m. in the Grand Marais City Council Chambers for the sale of vacant lands located in the Cedar Grove Business Park, and depending on what happens, Cook County might be getting a commercial laundry service.

The North Shore Laundry Holding Company LLC has offered to buy three lots in the Cedar Grove Business Park. The company offered $45,000 for lots one and two on Block six and $28,000 for lot three on Block six.

The goal is to build a commercial laundry service on lots one and two, and lot three would be utilized by Cascade Vacation Rentals to use for additional office space, storage, and likely firewood processing.

Thom McAleer of Cascade Lodge will partner with Steve Surbaugh of Cascade Vacation Rentals on this venture.

In a letter to the Cook County Board of Commissioners, McAleer said the laundry would create about a dozen jobs with pay ranging from $10 to $20 per hour. The developers hope to have the laundry open for January 2022. In addition, the plan is to convert a large storage building at the cost of $760,000.

The legal descriptions of the properties that are proposed to be sold are Lots 1 and 2, Block 6 to North Shore Laundry Service. Lot 3, Block 6, is proposed to be sold to Cascade Vacation Rentals.

Adam and Michele Harju, owners of Dirt Candy Designs, are proposing to buy Lot 12, Block 5.

Anyone who attends the public hearing and wishes to speak will be heard. Written and oral comments will also be considered.

Following the public meeting, there will be a special meeting for the Cook County/Grand Marais Economic Authority in the Grand Marias City Council Chambers to discuss the potential sales of the lots.
