The youngest citizens of Cook County are the future of our communities. They deserve the very best education that we can offer them. Over the years, I have had the privilege to be a part of Cook County Schools, teaching at Birch Grove, Grand Portage and Grand Marais. I have seen our young people grow into high-functioning contributors to our county, state and the global community. Cook County graduates have impacted much of my life here in Cook County.
I see Cook County graduates successfully running businesses, working in government and raising their children here. They are firefighters, EMTs, medical personnel and teachers. They serve on committees, care for the elderly, and give back to the community. They clear our roads, take away our garbage, and keep our county functioning. Cook County graduates have earned degrees and risen to high levels of education with Masters and PhDs in education, sciences, math, and technology. They have invented and created new ideas. They have achieved success due to their hard work and the backing of family and communities that value education.
We should be very proud of the citizens who have come out of Cook County Schools. They were supported and encouraged by the people who live in our communities. Every five years, the voters of Cook County are asked to help fund the school system. What are they funding?
They are funding our future citizens and giving them both the opportunities and materials to be successful in the world in which they will be living as adults. Are our children worth the extra money? Get into the schools for a day and find out. If you disagree with how money is spent, talk to your school board representative. When you see the signs “Funding Our Future,” think about what education has meant in the past and what it means for our future.
