Predictably the Governor of Texas has adopted the tried-and-true method of the double standard for the 45th President and President Biden. Exhortations to violence weren›t enough, sexism wasn’t enough, racism wasn’t enough, but Democrat was enough. In keeping with the Big Lie perpetuated by the 45th, Republican legislative bodies across the country have decided that the free and fair election, which was described as such (accurately) by a number of Republicans, was too free and too fair. In fact, though clouded in finger wagging about integrity, one only has to look to the words of one of their lawyers before the Supreme Court to see that they consider voting, the bedrock of democracy, to be an Achilles heel that puts them at a disadvantage. Why court the majority of voters when they can be gerrymandered into a minority of voices at the elected level?
Why protect a diverse population when the stun guns and teargas can be counted on to provide private law? Why make policy that buoys the party and the people when taking away the right to vote is such easy fruit? Why support main street when wall street and Tech street and monopoly street and fossil fuel highway have all that cash they are willing to hand out? Republicans across the US have doubled down on using lies they themselves perpetuated to strangle the voices of law-abiding Americans before their vote even reaches the ballot box.
