One hundred and thirty (130) property owners in the Tait Lake area received incorrect tax notices from the county assessor’s office this fall.
And all of them can breathe somewhat of a sigh of relief because the statements they received were calculated too high.
County Auditor/ Treasurer Braidy Powers has contacted the property owners to let them know of the error.
In his letter to the affected parties, Powers wrote, “The property tax system incorrectly calculated your tax base resulting in an incorrectly high proposed tax. The problem with the tax program has been fixed. However, we are not able to generate corrected proposed tax 2018 notices. Your actual 2018 Tax Statement will be correct. The 2018 Tax Statement will be sent to you in late March 2018,” wrote Powers.
“If your property had no change in valuation or classification for taxes payable 2018, the proposed increase in 2018 property taxes in the Tait Lake area was calculated at about 10 percent,” added Powers.
