The Superior Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) is seeking proposals for projects that would enhance forest ecosystems or restore and improve forest health and water quality on the Superior National Forest and other nearby lands.
According to RAC Chairman Howard Hedstrom, “The RAC committee will have nearly $400,000 to spend on projects this year” in Cook, Lake, and St. Louis counties through Title II funds under the reauthorized Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act. The RAC will receive additional funding in the next year.
“The public is encouraged to propose projects designed to improve Superior National Forest lands and the rural economies of local counties,” stated Hedstrom.
To be considered for funding, completed project applications must be submitted electronically or postmarked by 5 p.m. on Sept. 15, 2010. Additional calls for proposals are anticipated in the future.
The RAC will work closely with the Forest Service to review and recommend project proposals that will improve and maintain forest health. Jim Sanders, Superior National Forest supervisor, said, “We look forward to working with the Resource Advisory Committee to identify and implement projects that will provide long-term benefits to the local communities as well as to national forest resources.”
Project application forms and instructions are available online through the link to the Superior RAC page in the Secure Rural Schools section of the Superior National Forest web site at www.fs.fed.us/r9/superior or paper copies can be obtained from any Superior National Forest office.
