Professor Ahmed Samatar returns for next Guest Lecture




Professor Ahmed Samatar will present the next Guest Lecture at 3 p.m. Sept. 12 at Cook County Higher Education.

Samatar is a professor of international affairs with Macalester College in St. Paul with expertise in the areas of global political economy, political and social theory, and African development. He was last in Grand Marais in 2011 when he gave a presentation to a large audience at CCHE.

Samatar is returning to discuss his latest research on the subject of Development, Democracy, and Leadership: The Somali Context.

Samatar is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and has a master’s and a doctorate degree from Denver University.

The Guest Lecture series of Cook County Higher Education is offered to the community free, although donations are appreciated. The series is sponsored by the Grand Marais State Bank, the Lake Superior Trading Post, Drury Lane Books, George F. Maruska Ltd., Mike’s Holiday, White Pine North, Como Oil & Propane, Sawbill Outfitters, Beth’s Fudge and Gifts, and Johnson’s Foods. The lectures are held at Cook County Higher Education’s North Shore campus, 300 W. 3rd St. in Grand Marais.
