North Shore Storm cross country runners traveled to Proctor’s municipal golf course on Tuesday, October 18 to take part in the Proctor Lions Club Cross County Invitational.
The varsity boys’ team finished seventh out of 12 schools in Class AA with a score of 201. Cloquet placed first with 28 points.
Cloquet senior Isaac Boedeniger was the individual winner in 16 minutes and 23 seconds over the 5K course.
Noah Smith led the Storm with an 8th place finish, recording a time of 17 minutes and 26 seconds.
The next six runners for the Storm were Will Surbaugh in 20th, Brenden Seipke 52nd, Leif Anderson 59th, Mikael Overby 62nd, Sam Libby 64th, and Kevin Viren was 67th.
The girls’ varsity continued their excellent season with a fourth place against bigger schools. Duluth East’s girls won with a low score of 36. Louise Ramberg was first across the line for the Storm in 15th place. She completed the 3.1-mile race in 21 minutes and 36 seconds. Molly Weberg of Duluth East won the 5K event in 19 minutes and 52 seconds.
Next Storm finishers were Autumn Smith in 23rd, Cedar Gordon 25th, Maya McHugh 32nd, Isabel Schottenbauer 38th, Molly Thomas 45th, and Kate Walsberg placed 52nd.
In the Junior Varsity (JV) event, the Storm boys were seventh while the Storm girls placed third. Duluth East’s girls and boys JV teams easily won these two races.
Running in a pack, the top JV boy was Tate Crawford who placed 35th overall. Finishing on Crawford’s heels was Jack Viren in 36th, Andy Kern in 38th, Christian Beamer 41st, Trent Spry 47th, Sam Meyer 48th, and Doran Acero, who placed 54th.
Ariana Poyirier led the JV girls with a 10th place finish. Just behind was Paige Gries in 15th, Robin Hendrickson placed 16th, Brooklyn Smith was 17th, Aurora Schelmeske placed 25th, Chloe Blackburn finished 28th, and Daphne Lacina finished 30th overall.
Leading the seventh-and-eighth-grade boys were Jonah Schmidt in 40th place. Levi Nelson was next in 51st; Jack Willis was 53rd, Chance Kinstrand was 56th, Justin Paron 63rd, and Lucas Pinnell was 74th.
Top Storm seventh- and eighth-grade girl finishers were Cecelia Chmelik in 20th place, Saira Smith in 21st, Zoe Nonnemacher was 23rd, Sidni Hendren was 27th, Anna Johnson was 29th, Amanda Haveri was 30th, and Abbey Stoddard was 33rd place.
