Although the results aren’t official, Stacey Hawkins received 152 votes (45.4 percent) in Tuesday’s primary election, polling ahead of incumbent Cook County District 2 Commissioner Myron Bursheim, who netted 119 votes (35.2 percent). Both will move ahead to the November general election.
Jaye White finished with 64 votes (19.10 percent) in District 2 in her first attempt to run for office.
Ann Sullivan, who ran a strong campaign, came in first in the District 4 primary, collecting 294 votes (46.42 percent). Dean Berglund received 223 votes (34.74 percent).
Steve Watson collected 80 votes (12.46 percent) and Charles Christiansen netted 41 (6.39 percent) in the primary race.
Sullivan and Berglund will square off in the general election for the District 4 commissioner seat now held by Heidi Doo-Kirk, who decided not to run again after serving two terms.
Cook County Auditor/ Treasurer Braidy Powers said the preliminary result estimated that 58 percent of Cook County’s registered voters in Cook County cast ballots in the primary.
“We won’t know actual turnout until Thursday when any additional ballots with August 11 post mark have been counted,” said Powers.
Democratic- Farmer- Labor U.S. senator Tina Smith received 1,270 votes in Cook County, while her Republican challenger Jason Lewis picked up 409 votes.
In the U.S. Representative District 8 race incumbent Pete Stauber received 614 votes in the county. Stauber picked up 32,987 votes throughout the region to easily outdistance his challenger Harry Robb Welty’s 2,237.
Democratic- Farmer- Labor candidate Quinn Nystrom ran unopposed and received 40,702 votes with 84.41 percent of the votes counted on Wednesday, August 12. Nystrom received 1,190 votes in Cook County.
